Ricky Gervais’ Audacious Speech At Golden Globes Leaves The Internet Divided

Ricky Gervais blasted pretty much the whole of Hollywood during his monologue at the 77th Golden Globes award show.
As the host of the night, Gervais stuck to his comedic branding and began roasting the audience with his unabashed wit. He touched on controversial topics such as the “wokeness” of Hollywood, Jeffrey Epstein, Harvey Weinstein, and Prince Andrew.
The 58-year-old left no stone unturned as he dipped his toes into complex issues such as the #MeToo movement and ISIS. There is no boundaries set for the comedian who claims that he frankly never bothered to be cautious about his materials.
An excuse he constantly added in was the fact that it was going to be his fifth and final time hosting the Golden Globes award.
His jaw-dropping speech even pointed at some guests directly. At one point, he jokes about Leonardo DiCaprio dating younger women. DiCaprio, of course, laughed it off.
“You say you're woke, but the companies you work for [is] unbelievable,” Gervais announced. “Apple, Amazon, Disney. If ISIS started a streaming service, you'd all call your agent.”
This specific joke left Tom Hanks in shock. The 63-year-old had his eyes on the ground, eyebrows raised and lips pressed together forcefully, almost like he is holding his breath directly after the joke.
As soon as the viral clip of Gervais’ monologue went viral on Twitter, internet users began flocking to the post to express their opinions about it.
One user highlights Hanks’ reactions by tweeting, “Tom hanks goes from shocked to horrified to terrified.”
A majority of users sang praises to the comedian and crowned him as a “savage” for his brazen words. One of them wrote, “I’ve never seen Hollywood skewered like that to their faces. Well done Gervais.”
However, some users felt that Gervais was not funny or clever. “All he does is stand up there and complain and be offensive,” one user wrote.
To serve as a reminder, Gervais tweeted the viral clip of his speech with the message: “Remember, they’re just jokes. We’re all gonna die soon [and] there’s no sequel.”
