Netflix Pokes Fun At ‘Free Netflix’ Scam By Recommending The Lesser Of Two Evils

Last October, Netflix subscribers were alarmed to hear it could be cracking down on accounts that shared passwords as the habit was slowing its financial growth. Netflix amassed 7.6 million global accounts in October 2019, whereas it reported 8.8 million global accounts during the same quarter in 2018.
It seems, though, that Netflix isn’t too keen on limiting password-sharing; the pressures appear to come from disgruntled investors themselves. Meanwhile, Netflix fears the act would drag the value of its subscription plans and peeve users.
The service’s thoughts on password-sharing have been made clearer last week, after a scam promising free Netflix accounts made its rounds.
The Netflix India Twitter account confirmed the fraud by joking, “If you want free Netflix please use someone else’s account like the rest of us.”
While Netflix has discouraged password-sharing in the past, users can rest easy that their accounts won’t be suspended when they give their passwords away to friends or family members for now.
