Baby Yoda Was One Expensive Character, Good Thing Everyone Loves The Fella

Anyone who has logged onto the internet in the past months would have heard of Baby Yoda, the clear star of Disney+’s Star Wars: The Mandalorian.
While neither a younger Yoda nor a baby, the 50-year-old character melted hearts around the world with his miniature size, puppy-dog eggs and delightful gurgles.
His introduction was a huge risk, and thankfully it paid off. As revealed by comedian Adam Pally, who played a Scout Trooper in the season finale of The Mandalorian, the puppet required a whopping US$5 million to produce.
Pally appeared in a now-notorious scene that resulted in co-star Jason Sudeikis and himself being scolded, as it involved the two punching the character. It turns out that the actor had his reservations about attacking the puppet, but it’s not because of fears that the move would peeve the internet.
“I remember the first take that I did when I punched it,” Pally recounted at the TCA Winter Press Tour event. “They called ‘cut’ and Jon [Favreau], who was watching on a monitor in his office, came down and said, ‘I just want to let you know that this… costs, like, $5 million. I want you to hit it, but I want you to know that.’”
Yikes. Pally ended up missing his punches in the next three takes, as the reveal had made him jittery.
As for how he was cast for the role, Pally said he owed it to his lengthy friendship with Favreau. “[Jon Favreau] said he has this thing where he needed someone to do something special,” the actor related.
“That was kind of the headline I got,” Pally added, though it was enough for the two actors to say yes to the roles.
