Chinese Girl With Premature Aging Gets Wholly New ‘Young’ Face After Surgery

A 15-year-old girl in China was given a new appearance after being bullied for looking decades older due to a rare condition.
According to surgeons at Shenyang Sunline Plastic Surgery Hospital, Xiaofeng had Hutchinson-Gilford Progeria syndrome, a condition that caused a person to age prematurely, which she inherited from her mother. The genetic disorder only affected the girl’s skin, and not her organs.
As a result of the condition, she was bullied in school for her wrinkly skin.
The girl reached out to Chinese philanthropist Mingyi Guo, writing in an emotional letter stating that she looked like a “grandmother.” A moved Guo then helped to raise funds for her surgery by organizing a nationwide charity event.
After word of her condition got around, the hospital decided to help her and waived 70-percent of her 500,000 RMB (US$72,440) medical bill. The remainder was covered by donations by kind strangers.
The surgical procedures took place on 29 December, and according to the hospital, they involved the removal of excessive skin measuring seven centimeters (2.76 inches). Xiaofeng also had her nose, eyebrows and mouth reshaped.
Xiaofeng was presented to the public in her new appearance in a press conference, where she thanked the hospital and Guo for “giving [her] a new future.”
