Tinder Rolls Out ‘Silent Bodyguard’ & More To Help You Date Safely

Tinder is rolling out new safety features including an emergency button to provide security for its users, both online and in real life.
The platform teamed up with personal safety app Noonlight, described as a “silent bodyguard,” to integrate a go-to security button that calls for help when triggered in its platform.

The feature receives information about an upcoming date with another user and saves details like the person’s identity, the time, date as well as the location of the meetup.
If users feel uncomfortable in any situation, they can “easily and discreetly” send an alert and call emergency services through the in-app safety center. This is to ensure Tinder goes the extra mile to act as a “silent bodyguard” even in the real world.
Though some might have concerns over providing their location details, Mandy Ginsberg, CEO of Tinder parent Match Group assured with The Wall Street Journal that the information will not be used for marketing purposes.
An additional personalized safety center presents resources and tools that guide users through the online dating service with ease.
A new ‘Does It Bother You?’ tool detects potentially hurtful or offensive messages on the app through machine learning and sends a popup asking users if the messages “bother them.” Members need simply to reply “yes” or “no,” and are given the option of reporting the other user.
In line with the aforementioned tool is the ‘Undo’ feature that reminds users to check messages that the app suspects are offensive.
The app will also have a new photo verification feature to keep catfishes at bay. Members can self-authenticate by posing for selfies through a human-assisted AI technology.

These features attempt to make the platform a safer place for users to connect and make connections with confidence. The safety additions will soon be available in certain markets before being rolled out widely throughout 2020.
