Google is here to smash your hearts with its latest commercial that is set to air during the Super Bowl.

The 90-second ad, titled Loretta, tells a story of a widowed grandfather who struggles to hold on to memories of his late wife, Loretta.

The spot opens with an enquiry on Google Search reading, “how to not forget.” One of the results shows that repeating a detail to the person will help them remember things, which prompts the old man to use his Google Assistant as an aid.

The elderly man asks the virtual assistant to show him photos of him and his late wife, requesting that it remembers other details about his beloved.

“Hey Google, show me photos of me and Loretta,” he says, which prompts an image of the couple in their younger days. “Remember she hated my mustache,” he laughs. “Okay, I’ll remember that,” Google Assistant replies.

The voice assistant also pulls up a record of all the man’s notes. “Here’s what you told me to remember,” it proclaims, revealing all the requests he had made leading back to 14 May 2017.

“Loretta always said, don’t miss me too much, and get out of the dang house,” one note reads.

The spot has tugged the heartstrings of many viewers.

“This hit me hard, my grandmother had Alzheimer’s on her death bed,” commented one YouTube user. “Never did I think that a Google ad would bring me to tears,” said another.

Google’s chief marketing officer Lorraine Twohill said in a statement on Google’s blog that the ad was inspired by the grandfather of a Googler.

“At 85, to an audience of millions, he’ll be making his film debut. We couldn’t be happier for him,” Twohill said. “The ad reflects our goal to build products that help people in their daily lives, in both big and small ways.”

“Sometimes that is finding a location, sometimes it’s playing a favorite movie, and sometimes it’s using the Google Assistant to remember meaningful details,” Twohill added.
