Fans of Kobe Bryant are mourning the late basketball legend by tossing paper balls into a makeshift “basket” at LA Live Plaza and yelling “Kobe!”
A trash can was set up and labeled with, “#SayKobe. You know what to do,” and encouraged passersby to do what Bryant would have done.
Those who grew up watching Bryant in the basketball courts might have picked up a tradition mimicking his signature fade-away jumpshot while shouting “Kobe” and throwing rolled-up sheets of paper into the trash cans of classrooms and offices.
This custom was once again practiced near the Staples Center in Los Angeles to memorialize the basketball player. The crowd gathered around the bin, reenacting the basketball throws symbolizing the volume of Bryant’s cultural influence in the world.
The makeshift memorial was created after the untimely demise of Bryant, his daughter, and seven others, who were the victims of a helicopter crash on Sunday.
Fans at LA Live have now set up a trash can so they can start throwing paper balls, while yelling "KOBE!"

Purest thing I saw at the Kobe and GiGi memorial was someone bringing out a mini trashcan so we could all yell Kobe! while shooting trash in. pic.twitter.com/5drNd2uJ5b
