TikTok users might be seeing double on the video-sharing social network of late, as the platform recently unveiled a potential revamp of its user profile design that looks remarkably like Instagram’s.
The app, which hit
1.5 billion downloads last November, is currently experimenting with profile designs. One version was spotted by
New York Times journalist Taylor Lorenz, who described that the overhaul looked “almost exactly like Instagram.”
In this variation, profile pictures have been moved to the left, and the font in the profile bio has been enlarged and darkened, mirroring the appearance of Instagram’s user profiles.
While the facelift is largely being met with confusion, some users say a redesign is long overdue. “Their current user profile has terrible UX compared to how most of the app is so well designed,” one Twitter user responds.
Another suggests that the Instagram-like aesthetic might potentially win over new members: “If you can’t convince ’em, confuse ’em!”
To be fair, Instagram’s ideas aren’t completely original. You may recall that it “borrowed” the stories feature from Snapchat. It also recently introduced a ‘Clips’ option that TikTok seems to already have.
