Cosmopolitan magazine has declared that it will not publish a previously agreed-upon cover of a contestant from The Bachelor, as critics pointed out she had modeled ‘White Lives Matter’ attire in the past.
The woman, a 26-year-old medical sales representative by the name of Victoria Fuller, had secured a spot on the cover after winning a swimsuit photo shoot challenge in an episode.
The shoot was judged by Jessica Pels, Editor-in-Chief of Cosmopolitan magazine. The winner was to appear on the magazine’s digital cover in March 2020.
However, plans to feature Fuller were cut short after internet users shared screenshots of the woman dressed in merchandise depicting the text “White Lives Matter” and “Blue Lives Matter.”
The White Lives Matter movement has been described as a “neo-Nazi group” and “a racist response to the civil civil rights movement Black Lives Matter” by the Southern Poverty Law Center.
While the range claimed to advocate the conservation of white and blue marlin, the magazine’s editor said the phrases and philosophy were “rooted in racism and therefore problematic.”
“Unequivocally, the White Lives Matter movement does not reflect the values of the Cosmo brand,” Pels wrote in a response article. “We stand in solidarity with Black Lives Matter, and any cause that fights to end injustices for people of color.”
ApPaReNtLy this is for white marlin conservation but I’m having a hard time believing that’s the only message these clothes are sending https://t.co/opYMqcLDaH
