‘Little Women’ Movie Scene Ignites Meme About Things People Simply Can’t Do

A confrontational scene from Greta Gerwig’s Little Women film has turned into a meme that people use to reveal the things they just can’t do—they’ve tried it and they’ve failed, and simply can’t.
The scene sees Jo March (played by Saoirse Ronan) woefully rejecting her suitor Laurie (Timothée Chalamet). Laurie wants her to see him as more than a friend, and asks for her hand in marriage. Jo turns his proposal down because she holds her liberty in high regard.
“I can’t, I can’t, I’ve tried it and I’ve failed, I can’t,” the distressed Jo says in a clip shared by a Twitter user. The post has spiraled into a plethora of relatable scenarios similar to the Marriage Story memes where Charlie and Nicole, played by Adam Driver and Scarlett Johansson, have an intense argument.
One user reveals that it’s impossible for her to use any adverbs besides the word, “literally,” while another user mocks Gatsby from The Great Gatsby for his excessive use of “old sport.”
Blink-182’s Mark Hoppus has also joined in on the jokes, admitting that he can never write a song without the lyric “she said.”
