Donald Trump Sneers At Oscar Win For South Korean Film ‘Parasite’

Donald Trump wasn’t too pleased with Parasite’s Best Picture win at the Academy Awards this year.
Directed by Bong Joon-Ho, Parasite made history for being the first non-English film to nab the Best Picture award at the Oscars, but Trump had something to say about that.
During a rally in Colorado Springs on Thursday, Trump criticized the Academy Awards this year. “How bad were the Academy Awards this year, did you see? And the winner is… a movie from South Korea,” he mocked in the tone of an announcer.
Trump claimed that the US had “enough problems” with South Korea when it came to trade, and giving the nation an award for best movie of the year didn’t sit right with him.
He didn’t know if the film was good, and noted that it might be the “best foreign film” but not the best film for the Oscars. Trump was fixated with movies like Gone with the Wind and Sunset Boulevard, although those were made 70 years ago.
The American distributor of Parasite responded to Trump’s remarks by saying, “Understandable, he can't read.”
Parasite clinched a total of four awards this year at the Academy Awards, including the Best Director title for Bong Joon-Ho.
