Woman’s Bladder Produces Yeast That Makes Her Body Brew & Urinate Alcohol

This woman has a unique condition where she urinates alcohol due to high levels of yeast produced by her body.
The 61-year-old lady is diagnosed with “urinary auto-brewery syndrome” caused by yeast in the bladder, which ferments sugar in urine to produce alcohol.
The woman, who has diabetes and liver cirrhosiss, was formerly accused of being an alcoholic, and was stripped off the waiting list for a liver transplant due to “alcohol abuse.” Doctors believed that she was an addict and referred her to treatments for the supposed addiction.
However, further tests revealed that though alcohol was found in her urine, it was absent in her blood. Kenichi Tamama from the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center deduced that yeast is being naturally produced by the woman’s body and accumulates in her bladder, and in turn, produces alcohol.
Further tests clarified her situation, as doctors initially thought the woman was hiding an alcohol addiction from medical professionals. The woman was prescribed with an antifungal drug to treat her condition, but it did not work.
