Trippy Illustration Fools People Into Thinking Two Still Cubes Are Rotating

A masterful optical illusion involving two cubes is making its rounds all over the world. While the graphic is a GIF and the shapes appear to be rotating, they are completely still.
The trick was created by Twitter user @jagarikin, and supposedly shows two spinning blue wireframe cubes. However, if you fixate on one corner, you’ll discover that the shapes aren’t moving at all.
So, what gives? According to SoraNews24, it leverages on a phenomenon called the reverse phi illusion, which influences your brain to detect motion during quick light-to-dark or dark-to-light transitions.
Apart from the changing background, the outlines of the cubes switch between white, gray, and black, so they appear as if they are rotating.
The cubes are also deliberately illustrated as wireframes to denote additional motion, creating this mind-bending trick you can’t unsee.
