New York Debuts Its Own Brand Of Free Hand Sanitizers To Combat Coronavirus

To help New Yorkers stay safe from the coronavirus outbreak and overcome a hand sanitizer shortage, the state has rolled out its own brand of hand sanitizer.
The hand disinfectants, called ‘NYS Clean’, are being produced by prison inmates with wages averaging US$0.65 per hour, according to the Gothamist. Governor Andrew Cuomo detailed at a press conference that 100,000 gallons of the hand sanitizers will be made a week to fight the shortage.
Cuomo mentioned that NYS Clean is “a superior product,” and carries notes of “a very nice floral bouquet,” as reported by France 24.
The gel contains an alcohol content of 75 percent. For context, hand sanitizers require a minimum of 60-percent alcohol to be effective.
It will be distributed for free to the public transit system, schools, government agencies, and prisons, and is not expected to go on sale.
The activation is part of the government’s ‘Corcraft’ scheme, where jail inmates produce items like clothes, cleaning supplies and bedding.
