Tom Hanks Coronavirus Announcement Graphic Raises Brows For Being Too Cheerful

Tom Hanks revealed this week that he and his wife Rita Wilson were tested positive for the novel coronavirus. The news understandably shook fans, and media outlets everywhere began broadcasting about the diagnosis.
To capture the attention of audiences, iHeartRadio occasionally posts visuals containing short descriptions of current news, so when Hanks announced he and Wilson had been diagnosed with COVID-19, it quickly published a graphic to inform social media users, “Tom Hanks & Rita Wilson test positive for coronavirus.”
The message itself seemed fine, but Twitter users were perplexed by the announcement’s aesthetic and typeface, which resembled posts produced by awards to congratulate their winners.
The card, which arrived with a red gradient, showed the couple smiling at what seems like a red carpet event.
“This graphic design is telling me to congratulate them,” WGBH reporter Tori Bedford tweeted. “Best Coronavirus Infected Couple,” one Twitter user commented.
