Designers Attempt To Draw Extinct Animals From Memory, Results Are Upsetting

Just recently, two of the world’s last white giraffes were slaughtered by poachers. Many species are at risk of extinction, and sadly, some are already there.
The speed to which animals are disappearing from the world’s imprint is visualized through a sobering project by Tanzania Expeditions, which has asked designers across the globe to draw 10 extinct animals from memory.
Some artists returned with pretty accurate results for animals like the dodo and saber-toothed tiger, but many others had not heard of long-gone creatures like the moa or quagga. A number of illustrations were far off, imagining the quagga, a zebra subspecies; as amphibians and the auroch, a species of wild cattle; as sea creatures.
The project brings to light how future generations might no longer remember endangered animals like tigers, orangutans, and rhinos should they one day go extinct.
