‘Contagion’ Cast Shares How To Stop The Coronavirus From Spreading

The cast of 2011 thriller film Contagion have teamed up with scientists at the Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health to develop a set of PSAs for the coronavirus outbreak. Dr W. Ian Lipkin, the professor of epidemiology from the school, also worked as an advisor for the pandemic-centered film years ago.
Matt Damon, Kate Winslet, Laurence Fishburne, Marion Cotillard, and Jennifer Ehle took part in the infomercials aimed to “spread facts [and] not fear.”
Damon, who played the husband of the film’s patient zero, talked about the importance of social distancing, which is in line with his character’s behavior in the film. Winslet starred as an epidemiologist in the frontlines of the fictional outbreak, so her PSA detailed proper hand-washing routines.
Fishburne portrayed a high-ranking scientist at the Center for Disease Control and Prevention in the film. Hence, her spot was created to inform the public about how the virus spreads and how to prevent it.
Cotillard’s role in the film worked with the World Health Organization. Therefore, her PSA touched on how society will play a major role in curbing the virus from worsening. Since Ehle’s character in the film was a CDC scientist, she explained why coming up with a vaccine might take a long period of time.
