The coronavirus pandemic has driven many food businesses to shutter or strictly permit orders to takeouts and deliveries. This measure—implemented to prevent physical contact, and in turn, the spread of the virus—has affected these businesses financially as revenues take a plunge.
Instagram has now teamed up with ordering platform ChowNow to lend restaurants a helping hand during this uncertain period. The platform will now let restaurants add stickers to photos and stories, enabling users to tap on them and order the pictured meal or purchase gift cards.
Restaurants can direct users to order forms for customers to order the dishes. This will hopefully bring back some of their business, as visually-pleasing food photos are something Instagram is known for.
ChowNow will not receive any commission on food or gift card orders, but the restaurants will have to pay around US$99 to US$149 per month for its ordering and payment service and tools, per
TechCrunch. However, the delivery process will go to separate companies like DoorDash.
