The most common symptoms of COVID-19 are respiratory problems, a fever, cough, fatigue and body aches. However, the most certain way to detect the coronavirus is
through testing, as many carriers of the virus might be asymptomatic.
Some health professionals have found that even without the usual symptoms, they might be able to identify people who might require immediate medical attention if the patients have “
allergy eyes.” Another symptom has come to light, and this time, it is visible on the feet.
The Spanish General Council of Official Podiatrist Colleges recently
published a statement detailing that some COVID-19 patients have been spotted with small but visible lesions on their feet, which could serve as a “red flag” that the patients might have the coronavirus even if they don’t experience the most telltale symptoms.
“They are purple lesions (very similar to those of chickenpox, measles or chilblains) which usually appear on the toes and normally heal without leaving a mark,” the council explained.
These marks go away naturally without the aid of medication, and could be a useful early indicator of COVID-19.
However, the council reassured that “given the benign nature of the lesions… [patients should] remember that they should monitor the appearance of the other clinical symptoms characteristic of COVID-19, such as cough, fever, respiratory distress, etc.”
