Obama’s Funny Title In Michael Jordan Documentary Has Left Internet In Stitches

Viewers were tickled upon learning that ESPN’s The Last Dance had labeled former US president Barack Obama as “Former Chicago Resident.”
The new Michael Jordan docu-series features several familiar faces discussing the Chicago Bulls basketball player’s legacy. Obama, a Bulls fan, is among them. Fans couldn’t help but notice that the show describes him as “former Chicago resident,” while former US president Bill Clinton is given the designation of “former Arkansas governor.”
Viewers found it hilarious that Obama’s historic political career was overshadowed by him formerly living in Chicago. Social media users decided to share their thoughts upon seeing the title.
“My new goal in life is to meet the person who decided Barack Obama would be ‘Former Chicago Resident’,” a Twitter user joked. “Whoever’s writing these captions is the MVP of this doc,” another Twitter user commented.
However, director Jason Hehir has a reason behind the description. During an interview with the Athletic, Hehir explained that the objective behind all of the documentary’s chyron was to show how the former presidents were connected to Michael Jordan and the Bulls organization at the time.
“When Michael first came to town, I didn’t have the money to buy tickets for Bulls games, even the discount ones back in the day,” Obama says in the episode, as reported by Chicago Tribune. “I was pretty broke, but suddenly you have a sports figure that puts Chicago on the map and that everybody was able to rally around.”
