Research carried out by
OnlineCasino.ca “predicted” how avid gamers would look like in the next 20 years if they refused to change their habits.
The site showed a visual representation of the future gamer after reviewing reports on the potential effects of gaming addiction by various organizations, including the National Health Service (NHS), the World Health Organization (WHO) and the UK interactive entertainment.
With this information, the site mocked up an “avid gamer” model called ‘Michael’, who is visualized with bloodshot eyes, a dented skull, and blistered hands due to excessive gaming.
The grotesque model warns gamers that they could develop bad posture due to hunching over consoles, as well as stress-related eczema across the arms and legs. ‘Michael’ also has pale skin due to a lack of Vitamin D and B12, and a poor diet. The full findings of the study can be found on the OnlineCasino.ca
website.
Internet users were quick to respond to these disturbing and questionable images, with one Twitter user likening ‘Michael’ to a
Wallace and Gromit character “but with an alcohol abuse problem.” According to
Highsnobiety, others questioned the “legitimacy of the study.”
While the bizarre illustration might infuriate gamers, the site also offered tips for gamers to stay healthy during the quarantine period. Some of them include exercising regularly, eating healthily, and staying hydrated.
