Instagram livestreams are on the rise as people find ways to connect online, urging the social network to give users more options to
raise funds for causes they care about.
Instagrammers can now go on Instagram Live alone or with other users to encourage followers to donate to various nonprofit organizations.
To get started, you’ll have to tap the camera button on the top left, or simply swipe right to go to camera mode before selecting “Live,” and finally, “Fundraiser” to choose the specific nonprofit you wish to raise money for.
Livestreamers can tap on “View” to see a breakdown of all the donations made by Instagram users so they can give a shoutout to them. The money raised and the number of people supporting the fundraiser will also be shown to you during your broadcast.
Instagram explains that 100-percent of the donations will go towards the selected nonprofit. This new feature will come in handy as people work on raising funds for
coronavirus relief efforts.
Prior to the introduction of this feature, Instagram unveiled a Donation Sticker in Stories to encourage users to make donations to fundraisers. Users can obtain an exclusive “I donated” sticker designed by Brazilian community illustrator
@leonatsume to be added into their stories to bring awareness about the cause.
