NASA’s FDA-Approved Ventilator Will be Licensed For Free To Manufacturers

NASA’s affordable COVID-19 ventilator has attained FDA approval and it is now seeking an industry partner to produce the device. The space agency will license the technology on a royalty-free basis amid the coronavirus pandemic.
Engineers at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) created a simple ventilator called VITAL (Ventilator Intervention Technology Accessible Locally) within 37 days, and it was tested at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York using a “high fidelity human patient simulator.”
The device was strategically made to be economical and simple to use to combat the pressing medical supply shortage. VITAL can be easily modified for use in various hospitals and other medical centers.
