Apple Patents Bendable Single-Body Laptop Design That Will Make MacBooks Sleeker

Some might say smartphones are starting to resemble laptops as they inch towards foldable designs. As for laptops, well, since they’re already foldable, they might begin to look like foldable phones.
As ridiculous as the idea sounds, Apple’s concept for a sleek, unibody “personal computing device” will be a game-changer for laptops of the future, allowing them to curve in all the right places. As discovered by Apple Insider, the Cupertino giant has secured a patent for a “planar hinge assembly” at the US Patent and Trademark Office, which could make MacBooks and other devices with displays bend flexibly.
In its filing, Apple describes the bendable gadget to sport a “single piece body” with a “seamless overall appearance” and “a bendable portion that is capable of having a smoothly curved shape.” One half of it will feature a display, while the other will be built for input action.
To hold the device together, it is envisioned with “layers of bendable material” and a “solid-state hinge assembly” that allows future MacBooks to bend “in response to an applied force,” as well as create “a resistance to movement” according to the pressure being applied.
Of course, there’s a chance that the design might not come into actuality. Apple often files patent applications to protect itself. Won’t this sit prettily on your desk, though?
