Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey Now Lets Employees Work From Home… Forever

Twitter employees are now given the option to work from home indefinitely, following changes made to their work routines due to the spread of the coronavirus.
BuzzFeed News reported that Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey had emailed staff to confirm the new arrangement. He detailed that the company will not be returning to its offices before September, and added that employees will be free to continue working from home if they wish to even after lockdown measures are lifted.
A spokesperson for Twitter said that the company is “uniquely positioned” to respond quickly to the pandemic. Allowing staffers to work remotely cements the company’s emphasis on “decentralization and support on a distributed workforce” that allows working from anywhere possible.
“The past few months have proven we can make that work,” the representative continued. “So if our employees are in a role and situation that enables them to work from home and they want to continue to do so forever, we will make that happen.”
Employees who wish to return to the office can also do so, though they will have to adhere to additional precautions. “When we do decide to open offices, it also won’t be a snap back to the way it was before. It will be careful, intentional, office by office and gradual,” the statement wrote. There will also be no business travel and no in-person company events for the rest of the year.
“We’re proud of the early action we took to protect the health of our employees and our communities,” the spokesperson said. Twitter has asked 5,000 of its employees to work from home since early March.
