‘The Matrix’ Creator Bluntly Responds To Ivanka Trump, Elon Musk Over ‘Red Pill’

The co-creater of The Matrix wasn’t having any of Elon Musk’s cryptic tweets.
The SpaceX founder tweeted out, “Take the red pill,” to his 34 million followers on Sunday night. The famous line is from the 1999 movie The Matrix, starring Keanu Reeves.
“You take the blue pill, the story ends, you wake up in your bed and believe whatever you want to believe. You take the red pill, you stay in Wonderland and I show you how deep the rabbit hole goes,” Andy Wachowski famously said in the film.
Recently, the “red pill” has become another expression used to describe taking on right-wing values. Some Twitter used claimed the “red pill” was an indication that Musk was leaning towards Republican views. Donald Trump’s daughter, Ivanka, seemed to appreciate the hint, replying to Musk’s pill offer by saying, “Taken!”
However, their tweets were immediately rebuked by The Matrix’s Lilly Wachowski, who replied, “F**k both of you.”
According to the Urban Dictionary, the red pill has become “a popular phrase in cyberculture and signifies a free-thinking attitude, and a waking up from a ‘normal’ life of sloth and ignorance. Red pills prefer the truth, no matter how gritty and painful it may be.”
