Catch HBO Content With Your Friends In Real-Time With A ‘Virtual Movie Theater’

HBO has teamed up with Scener, a Google Chrome extension that lets you co-watch television shows and films with your loved ones who are apart during the coronavirus pandemic.
Scener integrated its Google Chrome extension with HBO Now and HBO Go for viewers to hold virtual co-watching parties. The browser plugin, dubbed as a “virtual movie theater,” is optimized for Windows, Mac, and Chromebook devices.
Through Scener, HBO viewers can watch synchronized content with up to 20 users at a given time. The functions on the platform let audiences connect with each other through text, audio, and video, as well.
The new collaboration comes in timely with HBO’s new streaming offering, #StayHomeBoxOffice, which lets non-subscribers enjoy popular content for free at home. Scener differs from Netflix Party, another Google Chrome extension for co-watching, as it has an official partnership with HBO.
