Hot Spring Makes Its Baths Available In VR For Quality Relaxation Time At Home

Sure, you can play pretend on your home office chair with Zoom backgrounds that transport you to vacations, but a work meeting is still a work meeting, and it doesn’t count as leisure time—but laying back in a simulated spa bath is.
Inns in the Japanese hot-spring town of Arima Onsen have now made their zen-esque experiences accessible at home during the COVID-19 outbreak with the help of virtual reality.
Wherever you are around the world, you can just relax in your home bath and tune into any of the onsen’s VR-enabled videos, giving you 15 to 20 minutes of relaxation.
Each clip was shot at a different bathhouse, so it’s almost like you’re soaking in a new onsen each time.
The only catch is that you’ll require a set of VR goggles and a bathtub to enjoy the program’s full effects. Kazushige Kanai, the owner of Arima Sansoh Goshobessho hot spring, explained to local news outlet The Mainichi that since people are spending more time playing games indoors, they are more likely to already own VR eyewear.
