Man Shows How You Can Turn Coca-Cola Bottles Into Face Shields In Two Minutes

Food and beverage giants are presently facing the conundrum of finding effective and economical replacements for single-use plastics. While it’s still difficult to stop the distribution of this cheap, lightweight material, consumers can also do their part by upcycling empty packaging for a new lease of life. In the COVID-19 crisis, this can mean reusing old bottles as personal protective equipment, which is in scarce supply.
In an informative tutorial published by New England ski resort Wachusett Mountain, one man demonstrates how to turn large soda bottles into face shields, and it turns out that you can make one in just two minutes using scissors, glue, empty plastic packaging, a sponge, and string.
Using a two-liter Coca-Cola bottle, the man cuts the top and bottom of the cola bottle, and then snips the remaining cylinder to form his shield.
As you’d be left with sharp edges that might cut you, the man then trims and rounds the corners.
Finally, he glues a piece of sponge at the forehead area for some support, ties a string around the top, and voila, creates a face protection shield.
At the end of the demonstration, his wife declares that the whole process only took him two minutes.
