The Trump administration’s Space Force is slowly taking shape. Soon after the president unveiled the military arm’s official flag, the branch kicked off its recruitment campaign through a series of adverts calling for Gen Z aspirants to help “make history.”
On its website, the US Air Force—which comprises the Space Force—announced that its recruiting processes will persist as the nation fights the COVID-19 crisis. It then rolled out a handful of spots touting a “whole new world” outside of Earth last week.
The campaign, produced alongside the Armed Forces’ creative partner GSD&M, vies to get young hopefuls to join the Space Force program by offering a “critical” and “unique generational opportunity” where they’ll defend the country and allied interests “to provide space capabilities to other US military branches.”
GSD&M explained that in the Space Force’s research, it found that Gen Zs possess a “strong interest in space” and are more eager to connect the dots of how space can support life on Earth.
“This is the first generation with reason to question if their purpose might be beyond this planet entirely,” the creative agency elaborated.
Acknowledging that STEM-inclined Gen Zs with specialized skill sets and great mental and physical fitness would be coveted by multiple other industries, the creators of the campaign thus positioned the ads to offer a “unique employment opportunity” they won’t be able to find elsewhere.
