McDonald’s Spotlights Racial Violence Victims In Poignant Black Lives Matter Ad

McDonald’s has unveiled a powerful ad in support of the Black Lives Matter movement.
Produced with creative agency Wieden + Kennedy New York, the 60-second spot lists the names of Black Americans who were unjustly killed by the police. Some of them were shot to death by cops, despite being unarmed.
The names in the poignant ad are Trayvon Martin, Michael Brown, Alton Sterling, Botham Jean, Atatiana Jefferson, Ahmaud Arbery, and George Floyd.
McDonald’s ad describes that the fast-food chain stands in solidarity with the African-American community. “They were all one of us,” the ad states. “We see them in our customers. We see them in our crew members. We see them in our franchisees. And this is why the entire McDonald’s family grieves.”
“Today we stand with black communities across America. Which is why we’re donating to the National Urban League and the NAACP. We do not tolerate inequity, injustice or racism,” the company adds in the spot.
McDonald’s USA CMO Morgan Flatley said it is time for the chain to raise its voice and start speaking up. “Consumers are watching how brands act in this moment, and our own multicultural communities deserve not only our support, but our action. We must leverage the power and scale of our brand to make meaningful change,” Flatley said in a statement.
