New York’s Wi-Fi Kiosks Memorialize Murdered Black Americans Amid Protests

Since Tuesday, LinkNYC internet kiosks have been putting up the names of Black Americans who have unjustly passed on to stand in solidarity against racism.
The screen lists the following names: Trayvon Martin, Eric Garner, Michael Brown, Tamir Rice, Freddie Gray, Philando Castile, Sandra Bland, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, and George Floyd.
Each name is displayed for 15 seconds at a time to remember an individual who has lost his or her life under police custody or from gun violence.
The names will appear in over 1,780 kiosks across the city, alongside the usual LinkNYC ads. However, the organization stated that it is not tied with any sponsorship.
“We stand with the millions of New Yorkers who are demanding justice for Black Americans and speaking out against systemic oppression and racism,” Intersection CMO Dafna Sarnoff told TechCrunch.
Floyd’s death in the last week spurred on nationwide protests to call out the systemic racial injustice in the US.
