IKEA Opens Its First-Ever Convenience Store In Tokyo, Serves Plant-Based Ramen

The land of 7-Elevens has welcomed an unlikely brand of convenience store. The world’s first IKEA convenience store has just opened in Harajuku, Tokyo, giving visitors even more instant ramen options on top of an already seemingly endless variety.
From the get-go, IKEA Harajuku strikes as highly unusual. Unlike typical outlets that are nestled in suburban areas, the newly-opened four-story complex sits right at the heart of Tokyo, directly facing the busy Harajuku Station.
For this reason, the store embodies an urban concept and is filled with ideas for urban living and tiny spaces, SoraNews24 reports.

Perhaps the most notable feature is its convenience store, IKEA’s very first in the world.
This is where patrons can purchase affordable and sustainable items such as eco-friendly bags, including teeny palm-sized ones, freezer bags made from plant-based materials, and plant-based ramen.

It also includes a coffee stand where customers can order a takeout cuppa, plant-based ice cream, and cinnamon rolls.
The Sweden Cafe at IKEA Harajuku is also noticeably different from IKEA Restaurants elsewhere, as it wholly replaces the quintessential Swedish meatballs with a TUNNBRÖD flatbread boasting 16 different savory and sweet fillings, including vegetarian options.

It also serves a plant-based soft-serve sundae topped with lingonberries and cereal, an exclusive IKEA coffee brewed with sustainably-sourced coffee beans and vegan oat milk, and low-alcohol craft beers in colorful packaging.
