Missguided Defends Using Slim Models For Plus-Size Clothing After Getting Ripped

Fashion brand Missguided blames the coronavirus pandemic after being called out for not hiring plus-size models to wear its curvy range.

Shoppers noticed that the fashion label has been using the same women from its main range to advertise the brand’s plus-size clothing. The collection shows size eight models with a disclaimer that reads, “Please note: The picture shown is our size eight model,” prompting some to call the brand “lazy.”

“So, Missguided are using straight-size models to show their plus-size range and using a disclaimer of ‘you’ll just have to imagine what they look like on a plus girl’ to sell clothes?” one Twitter user asked in frustration.

“The whole point of a plus-size curvy range is so plus-size and curvy people can see what it would look like on a body like theirs. It’s lazy,” another user weighed in. “This screams, ‘we want to profit from plus-size individuals without representing or supporting them in any way’,” a third user said.

According to the label, plus-size models were not booked due to the coronavirus. “Because of circumstances, we’ve avoided booking additional models right now for ranges that have been extended from smaller sizes,” a Missguided spokesperson said. “Right across our plus-size ranges online you can see plus-size models—in this rare exception, we’re transparent online about the model’s size.”

@Missguided ‘plus size’ are you being serious??? And we wonder why so many people struggle with body dismorfia and body imagine when places like missguided say this is PLUS SIZE???? pic.twitter.com/HIr5wgZbmS

Sooo, Missguided are using straight size models to show their plus range and using a disclaimer of “you’ll just have to imagine what they look like on a plus girl” (paraphrased of course), to sell their clothes????????

Um, quick question for you @Missguided... please can you explain why you're suddenly using your size 8 models to sell your plus ranges? https://t.co/T0OwqpKtPp
