An additional security fence was installed around the White House in Washington, DC as protection amid anti-racism protests that saw some demonstrators getting in altercations with the Secret Service.
Protesters continue to voice their concerns by turning the fence into a memorial wall for the innocent lives lost due to systematic racism and police brutality. The barrier was plastered with posters, messages, and pictures of those who had passed on under police custody in the nation.
“All along the northern edge of Lafayette Park, people are leaving signs [and] notes, [and] have woven in messages,” Alex Howard, director of the Digital Democracy Project at Demand Progress, wrote in a Twitter post with images of the fence.
The wall, now filled with memorabilia, presents the fight against systemic racial injustice in the US after the death of George Floyd, who was pinned down to his death by Minneapolis cop Derek Chauvin.
