YouTube has launched a US$100 million multi-year fund to shed light on Black stories with focus on its Black creators and artists. The company will also strive to bring forth racial injustice issues on its Spotlight channel throughout the month of June.
The streaming platform has also created a live-streamed fundraising event called Bear Witness, Take Action. The event is scheduled for 13 June 2020 to raise awareness of racism.
“We will work to ensure Black users, artists, and creators can share their stories and be protected from hateful, white supremacist, and bullying content.” CEO Susan Wojcicki wrote in a statement.
The upcoming event,Bear Witness, Take Action, will be hosted by Common and Keke Palmer with special guests including Carmelo Anthony, Sterling K. Brown, Roxanne Gay, Alicia Graza, Jemele Hill, John Legend, Trey Songz and more.
The fundraising live-stream will include musical performances, discussions, and panels for viewers to stay informed while urging them to make donations to the Equal Justice Initiative, an organization combating racial injustice in the US.
