Canon Captures First Hugs Of Families, Friends & Lovers After Lockdown Lift

After an enduring 12-week lockdown implemented to fight coronavirus transmissions, Belgium finally allowed close contact between bubbles of up to 10 people on 8 June. Hugging is also permitted, a long-awaited consolation for residents yearning to embrace and comfort their loved ones during this difficult period.
In a new photographic project produced alongside creative consultancy agency Happiness Brussels, Canon enlisted Belgian photographer and Canon ambassador Lieve Blancquaert to capture the emotional first hugs between grandparents and grandchildren, siblings, friends, and lovers in a safe environment.
The #FirstHugs series will appear as a television program, illustrating stirring stories of loved ones who were finally able to hug each other again. The six poignant shots will also be displayed on social media and in public.
Belgium is slowly exiting from its lockdown to prevent potential COVID-19 infections. It is currently in phase three of reopening the country, with phases four and five to be expected.
