The world came together to raise funds for those affected during the coronavirus pandemic. Now, the social injustice protests have also propelled many to get involved to help make a positive change in the world.
Creatives are now offering their hand in aiding charities and fundraisers with new artworks, merchandise, and zines for sale, while others are lending their craft for charitable use. Take a look at some creative projects raising funds for those who might need them the most.
Artist Takashi Murakami is releasing six black prints featuring his iconic flower and skull designs. Each edition will come in 300 pieces, with each print being silkscreened and then spray-painted by Murakami. 100-percent of donations will head towards various organizations supporting the Black community.
English heavy metal band Loathe has designed a T-shirt to support George Floyd’s family through GoFundMe, as well as the Black Lives Matter fund. The back of the T-shirt sports an image of fists to represent solidarity during racial injustice. The text borrows the line from the band’s self-titled 2017 track, “As one, we’ll face the reckoning side by side.” Each T-shirt is priced at £20 (US$25.30).
Artist Ricardo Nagaoka is offering his zines if you donate US$25 or more to one of his partnering organizations supporting bail funds. If you offer US$75 or higher, you’ll receive an eight-inch x 10-inch print, along with a copy of the zine. For donations over US$150, Nagaoka will send you a 16-inch x 20-inch print.
Writer Joel Clement and art director Jeff Ross have teamed to offer freelance services to agencies with 100-percent of the payment going directly to the United Negro College Fund (UNCF) to help back scholarships for minority students. The service is available from 15 June 2020 and will run for two weeks.
