Facebook Will Let You Turn Off Political Ads From Its Platform & Instagram

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced that Facebook and Instagram will allow users to turn off political ads in lieu of the upcoming 2020 US election.
Facebook previously faced backlash for making posts from politicians readily available on its platform, even when they contained false information. Twitter, on the other hand, banned political advertising in October 2019.
“For those of you who’ve already made up your minds and just want the election to be over, we hear you—so we’re also introducing the ability to turn off seeing political ads,” Zuckerberg wrote in his statement.
Users will soon have the option to disable political, electoral and social issue ads with the “Paid for” political disclaimer from candidates and other entities, and will be able to turn them off as they appear or through a complete block via the settings section. Adverts that continue to emerge can be reported, as well.
The company is planning to make the feature available across the US over the coming weeks, and provide it to other countries later this year.
Zuckerberg also encouraged users to register and vote in the upcoming US election in November. Both Facebook and Instagram will offer voting information in each state through a Voting Information Centers section.
The information will include details according to the election phases, such as registration periods, deadlines to opt for a vote-by-mail ballot, the commencement of early voting, as well as Election Day.
