ASOS’ Face Mask-Like Bikini Will Safeguard Boobs But Not From Virus Attacks

Summer in the time of corona won’t just be dominated by ‘Trikinis’ (with the third piece covering your mouth), but possibly also this bikini top that matches the shape of face masks.
The floral bandeau top, discovered by fashion humor Instagram account @asbos_sos on online retail giant ASOS, features squarish ruched pieces to cover boobage. As if the resemblance to reusable face masks isn’t enough, the garment is secured with straps similar to the ones you’d hook over your ears.
The bikini top was produced by UK label Fashion Union, and is priced at US$26 with six available sizes.
“Public Service Announcement: face masks do not work below the nose,” the Instagram account joked.
Needless to say, the bikini top doesn’t work as a face mask and won’t protect your body from possible COVID-19 infections, since the coronavirus is transmitted through respiratory—rather than, er, chlorine-infused—droplets.
In all seriousness, experts have come to believe that the virus can’t pass through the breasts. A recent note by the World Health Organization encourages new mothers to continue breastfeeding, as no live traces of the coronavirus have been found in breast milk so far.
