‘Dear White People’ Cast Parodies The Dubious ‘I Take Responsibility’ PSA

Anti-racism protests are being carried out to fight for systemic racial injustice across the US. During this time, a star-studded PSA had garnered attention for using “influential voices from the white community [to take] responsibility for turning the racist tide in America.” The ‘I Take Responsibility’ PSA is now being parodied by the white cast from the famous Netflix series, Dear White People.
The PSA was immediately ridiculed for being overly dramatic and for making the issue about the celebrities themselves. The cast members from Dear White People, including John Patrick Amedori, Wyatt Nash, Caitlin Carver, Erich Lane, and Sheridan Pierce, have recreated their version as the characters take responsibilities in a tone-deaf manner.
“I take responsibility for being white and pretty and desirable to men of all races,” said Carver, who plays Muffy Tuttle. “For not posting the black square soon enough, but for leaving it up far too long.”
Nash, as Kurt Fletcher, divulged, “I take responsibility… for being hilarious even though people are PC (politically correct) now.”
“I take responsibility… for having asked to see many managers,” Pierce, who plays Abigail, reflects on her Karen-like behavior.
