Studio Ghibli Shows Off Stills From Its First Fully-CGI Film ‘Aya & The Witch’

Studio Ghibli has given fans the first look at Aya and the Witch, a film helmed by Hayao Miyazaki’s son Goro and the studio’s first to be completed wholly with CGI.
Still images of the animation, based on Diana Wynne Jones’ 2011 children’s book Earwig and the Witch, have emerged. The colorful Aya and the Witch art sees a huge departure from the signature hand-drawn work that Studio Ghibli is renowned for, and reveals the studio’s exploration into 3D computer-generated art.
According to Independent, the new look has received mixed reviews from social media users, as many associate the studio with its traditional animation style.
“Please cancel this, still got time. Do not tarnish Studio’s legacy,” one user wrote. “I don’t want Ghibli to produce standard 3D movies, I’m begging you please stop,” a second user said.
Others, though, are still excited for the upcoming film. “I understand having [a] preference for 2D content, but people seeing that CG Ghibli film and just immediately shutting it down entirely is wild to me cause you know it’s still gonna have that good Studio Ghibli energy,” a fan tweeted.

i understand having a preference for 2D content, i prefer it too since i rlly enjoy studying it, but ppl seeing that cg ghibli film and just. immediately shutting it down entirely is wild to me cause u KNOW its still gonna have that good Studio Ghibli Energy
