YouTube’s Latest Fad Is Medieval Covers Of Pop Music From The Current Era

Brace thyself for thine best tracks on thee internet at the moment. YouTube has recently seen a surge of medieval covers of pop music being uploaded on its platform.
The genre is called “Bardcore,” with the Celtic word “bard” referring to “poet” or “storyteller.” Though the covers can be found within the depths of YouTube, the new fad has surfaced to the mainstream audience. There have been around 100 medieval covers of modern pop songs on the website just in the last week.
The trend features covers of pop songs with the use of lutes, fiddles, and harps, as well as lyrics rewritten in an old English style. Though there are several YouTubers uploading Medieval-inspired covers, standout ones include Hildegard von Blingin’s version of Lady Gaga’s Bad Romance.
The cover entails instrumentals of Celtic harp, recorders, and whistles, and the iconic “I want your love and all your lover’s revenge. You and me could write a bad romance” lyric has been changed to, “I want thy love and all thy lover’s revenge. Thee and me could write a bad romance.”
Another user, Cornelius Link, performed a cover of Foster the People’s Pumped Up Kicks, which has already amassed around 3.7 million views. The notable lyric, “All the other kids with the pumped up kicks,” sees an amusing “all ye bully-rooks with your buskin boots” revamp.
