Donald Trump Jr. Pitches Replacing Defaced Monuments With Statues Of His Dad

Donald Trump Jr. has an eyebrow-raising solution for the vandalism of statues by anti-racism protesters.
On Tuesday, Trump Jr. took to Twitter to suggest a “movement” involving defaced and pulled-down Confederate sculptures that might actually please his dad. It entails the swapping out of the monuments for new statues of the 45th US president.
“Want to save our monuments? Let’s get a movement going to replace any statue torn down during these riots with a new and more sturdy statue of @realDonaldTrump,” he wrote.
Trump Jr. imagined the counter-protest would guarantee an “instant” withdrawal of the “nonsense.”
Demonstrators graffitied and tore down Confederate landmarks in response to the death of George Floyd, mourning lives lost from hands of police violence and systemic racism.
Protesters most recently pulled down the statue of Andrew Jackson near the White House, an act that infuriated President Trump. He then threatened to jail vandals with a sentence of up to 10 years in prison, alleging that he had “authorized” the rule and that it was “effective immediately.”
