Japanese Election Candidate Cheekily Wears Masks As Bra For Political Statement

As Japan enters the election season, candidates in Tokyo have begun campaigning, which usually involves a standard poster of the participant smiling with their party name and slogan.
One candidate, however, decided to take a step further in making her poster a memorable one. Kana Shindou, who is campaigning for a seat in Tokyo’s Kita Ward as part of the Horiemon New Party, shared a promotional piece that definitely stood out.
She posed with cloth face masks that were issued out by the Japanese government to protect households from the coronavirus. These face covers are commonly referred to as “Abe Masks,” after prime minister Shinzo Abe.
Shindou got creative and attached two masks together, forming a bra. With the slogan “Crush coronavirus restrictions!” her poster showed the candidate posing with the self-made undergarment, which she cheekily called the “Abe mask bra.”
While the poster has been effective in garnering eyeballs, she aims to make a statement about Abe’s administration in handling the coronavirus pandemic, claiming that Abe has been wasting money by handing out masks to every household in the country.
