Step one to defeating
COVID-19 is to maintain a safe distance from others. This reminder has been repeated time and time again in desperate bids to stave off the coronavirus, but it sometimes still gets forgotten or ignored.
If people are still keeping too close for comfort, maybe turning yourself into a disgusting walking warning will help. An amusing initiative by
AMV BBDO sees the UK advertising agency commissioning various creatives—including illustrator
Simon Landrein,
The Walkers Switch podcast host Lauren Peters, and artist duo
animationseries2000—to design ‘
Distance Couture’, AKA wearable stranger repellents to make others “stay TF away” from you.
T-shirt designs comprise warnings guaranteed to push others away, like, “I smell,” “Let me sell you some miracle bleach cure,” “I’m conducting a customer survey!” and one repeatedly chanting the phrase, “Let me tell you how amazing my kids are!” A normally innocuous “Free Hugs” tee warrants a different reaction in this climate.
“It’s basically PPE for civilians…” the Distance Couture team explained in a statement via
Creative Boom. “Don’t just stay alert. Stay TF away from each other.”
The Distance Couture collection can now be purchased via online social enterprise
Print Social, and all profits made from the project will be donated to the UK’s National Health Service (NHS) through its charity arm, NHS Charities Together.
