Keanu Reeves is now able to add “comic-book writer” to his already impressive portfolio.
The actor is working together with writer
Matt Kindt and artist
Alessandro Vitti to produce
BRZRKR, a 12-issue comic under Boom! Studios that will be released in October.
The comic is said to be “
brutally violent,” and follows a violent demigod named Berzerker as he roams the Earth in search of answers on his existence. He then finds refuge working for the government and continues to fight battles “too dangerous for anyone else,” as per the comic’s synopsis.
Reeves said that the story will have “really interesting twists and turns” and will explore themes of “the nature of violence, morals, ethics and what side do you choose,”
USA Today reported.
Though the comic is still in its early days, Reeves is already interested to bring it to the big screen. He told
USA Today that he’d love to play Berzerker. “It’s a really fun story so if it’s not me, hopefully someone can play it,” he said.
Reeves also described working together with Kindt, Vitti, and color artist Bill Crabtree as a “dream come true.”
Currently, early artwork for the comic has been released to the public, and it appears to have taken inspiration from the actor himself.
The illustration sees the protagonaist—bearing an uncanny resemblance to the actor—in the middle, sporting a ripped top, rugged facial features and a gun slung over his chest, while two co-characters sandwich him. The bottom of the piece sees a line of police officers—perhaps working for the US government—clothed in an all-black protective gear.
BRZRKR is set for print and digital publication on 7 October.
