Zayn Malik’s Fans Demand Spotify Remove Song That Suggests Him As ‘Terrorist’

Fans of Zayn Malik came to the singer’s defense after an offensive song surfaced on Spotify.
Malik’s fans discovered a track, written by Uma Kompton, that was titled Zayn did 9/11 on Spotify. The song, which was originally released in 2017, made a series of offensive Islamophobic claims about Malik, including calling him a “terrorist.” It also revisited the terror attacks on 11 September 2001 in the US.
The hashtag “#RemoveItForZayn” immediately trended on Twitter, with many social media users demanding for it to be taken down. “This is so racist and disgusting. How dare you all him a terrorist? #removeitforzayn,” one angry user tweeted. “This is absolutely disgusting Spotify needs to get rid of it now,” another user said.
Spotify immediately removed the song of its platform, writing that it doesn’t “permit content whose principal purpose is to incite hatred or violence against people because of their race, religion, disability, gender identity, or sexual orientation.”
“As we’ve done before, we will remove content that violates that standard. We’re not talking about offensive, explicit, or vulgar content – we’re talking about hate speech,” it continued.
Although Spotify has removed it, other platforms like YouTube and Apple have not taken it down.
