‘Tesla’ Movie’s Eccentric Poster Looks Like Someone From Instagram Designed It

IFC Films has released an electrifying poster for the upcoming biopic Tesla.
Directed by Michael Almerevda, the film features Ethan Hawke as the titular inventor, Nikola Tesla. According to the synopsis, the film follows the inventor as he “fights an uphill battle to bring his revolutionary electrical system to fruition” in the 1800s.
While the description sounds interesting, the poster has left fans baffled. The poster shows a back portrait of Tesla with a color gradient plastered on him that might as well have been inspired by the Instagram logo.
The poster doesn’t give off 19th-century vibes and the film’s neon, decorative title hasn’t sat well. Hawke’s stern facial expression too doesn’t fit well with the whimsical poster.
The poster made it to Reddit, and Redditors weren’t too keen with its outlook. “The poster looks terrible. It makes it look like Tesla is 1980’s top DJ,” one user joked. “For such an important figure in history, whose fate is so tragic, I find the colors to be quite off-putting. The appropriate complexity and sophistication of design necessary to convey the monumental achievements of this man are simply not there. Is it a musical perhaps? The font sure is... fun?” another unhappy Redditor commented.
