Chelsea Handler’s Controversial Bikini Photo Stirs Debate On ‘White Privilege’

Chelsea Handler caught heat after sharing a controversial photo of herself in a purple bikini.
Handler is known to share revealing photos of herself, but this one in particular stirred up a heated discussion. The photo saw her wearing a striking bikini with a pair of heels as she posed in a yacht. She held a glass of wine in her left hand, while holding on to a rope with her right hand.
While her caption was meant to be funny, one of her hashtags proved to be rather problematic. “I was trying to figure out why women wear heels while wearing a bathing suit,” she joked with the hashtag, ‘#FBF’ and ‘#whiteprivilege’.
Handler is known to be candid with the “White Privilege” topic. Back in 2019, Handler created a 2019 documentary for Netflix titled Hello, Privilege. It’s Me, Chelsea. Despite this, many social media users still thought her hashtag was “inappropriate,” and used her activism against her.
“You post against white privilege yet you live a more privileged life than most and flaunt it,” one angry user wrote. “It must be the white privileged. It’s amazing to me that you are telling people of color you are better than them from the color of your skin and they are bowing down to you,” another added.
Some of her fans came to Handler’s defense, with a couple of them explaining Handler’s work on the sensitive issue. Others complimented her look, with one calling her a “Russian woman of leisure.”
